To begin, I am obviously a fan of the movie Practical Magic. I am quite enthusiastic about it, and this has been a wonderful opportunity to stretch my web design muscles a bit. But this does not tell you why I created the site....

I created my first Practical Magic site before the movie was even released, back in September 1998. I had read and enjoyed the novel by Alice Hoffman (as I have many of her books), and decided to make a site - if the movie was terrible, I thought, I will take the site down. In my personal opinion, the movie was far from terrible. In fact, it struck a chord with me. The themes of sisterhood and friendship, the deep bonds shown in the film, and the portrayal of witches as ordinary (well, mostly) people were very appealing. Not to mention that the Owens' house is my dream home! And so, I left the old site up. But as I actually learned something about web design (I have been dabbling for a few years now), I realized how poor the old site truly was. I am extremely busy, but nonetheless vowed to create a site that I personally, and I hope others, would want to come back to again and again. [So, for the 2 year anniversary of the U.S. release of Practical Magic (October 16, 2000), I am launching Amas Veritas.] In January 2004, I have updated the site once again, hopefully making it even easier to navigate, to find all the nooks and crannies. Hopefully you will enjoy browsing it as much as I have enjoyed creating it. It is my gift to all others who love this movie. As well as to all other 'practical' witches. Enjoy!

More about me...
I have been online since 1994, and started web design in 1998. This site, and most of the images within it, were created solely by me on my rapidly aging Macintosh G3, Parker, using (mostly) Fireworks, Photoshop, Quicktime Pro, and Dreamweaver. I live in southern California but hope to move to Oregon or Washington or Ireland or Newfoundland or somewhere... eventually. I currently work in the library of an art museum (running the computer system, cataloging) while attending school full-time for - well, it's currently Liberal Arts with an English emphasis, but it was Library Science and Internet Technologies, and may eventually be them again. I enjoy reading, traveling, gardening (herbs, vegetables, & scented geraniums - though I don't currently have the land). I love to create things: crafts, costumes, web design, writing, and more. I'm a collector. [I have two lovely (if rotund) cats.] Well, this has changed - one of my babies died in October 2002, and the other is no longer so rotund. I plan to get a kitten this summer, when I have more time to devote to him. It is my goal to eventually be a published fiction writer.
